Northern Alberta Signallers and Communicators Association

August 5, 1995 marked a momentous occasion for the Royal Canadian Signals. A Memorial Cairn was erected and dedicated to all those who served in any capacity with the North West Territories and Yukon Radio System from 1923 to 1959. Special mention on the cairn was made toward those who died while in service with NWT&YRS RCSigs.

It is situated on the site of the original VED radio station 13335 - 127 Street. A larger station was built later to include the headquarters moved here from VER by Major Jack Pearson in May 1943. The cairn is very attractive and can be viewed from 127 Street while walking or driving.

Anyone wishing to send a belated contribution need only make them payable to C and E Museum, CFB Kingston, Kingston, ON. K7L 5L0. Mark your cheque 'for NWT&YRS Cairn Project' They will then issue a tax deductible receipt and notify the committee in Edmonton.

A unique comemorative colour lapel pin struck especially for the dedication ceremony can be made available on receipt of sufficient orders. Write Ken Slater, 8027 - 149A Avenue, Edmonton, AB. T5C 2X3 with your request. Ken is also working on a colour video, snapshots and a bound version of the History of NWT&YRS. Costs to be advised at a date in the not too distant future.
